Our History
In the late 1950’s, a group of like-minded individuals living in Lakewood and surrounding cities wanted to provide low-income housing for older adults. After they received funding to build and open the Westerly Apartments, it became clear there was a need for more than just living quarters, and that socialization and programming were a necessity. Thus, the Barton Center became, and still is, the “gathering place” for all older adults living in the entire West Shore area to eat, play, and spend their day.
